Cricket enthusiasts around the world were treated to a spectacular display of skill, athleticism, and reflexes during the third ODI clash between India and Australia at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on Wednesday (September 27). The match witnessed Aussie all-rounder Glenn Maxwell take a breathtaking catch that sent the Indian opener Rohit Sharma back to the pavilion.

Australia’s innings

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Australia posted a formidable total of 352-7 in their allotted 50 overs. David Warner (56 off 34 balls), Mitchell Marsh (96 off 84 balls), Steve Smith (74 off 61 balls), and Marnus Labuschagne (72 off 58 balls) were the standout performers for their team and played a pivotal role in powering Australia to a challenging total.

Rohit Sharma’s blitz

In reply, the Men in Blue needed a quick start, and they were not disappointed. Known for his explosive batting, India skipper Rohit lived up to his reputation and went all guns and blazing. He looked in sublime touch and dispatched the Australian bowlers to all corners of the ground, scoring brilliant 81 runs off just 57 balls. Virat Kohli provided able support with his composed 56 off 61 balls. However, it was Maxwell who stole the show with his exceptional skills in the field and restricted Rohit from reaching the three figures by dismissing him off a sensational caught and bowled.

Glenn Maxwell’s sensational catch

It all happened in the 21st over of India’s innings when Rohit decided to take on Maxwell’s bowling. Rohit stayed inside the crease and hammered the ball straight with full power. What happened next left everyone in awe.

Maxwell, positioned at a relatively close distance to the batter after follow through, saw the ball rocketing back at him at a remarkable pace. In a fraction of a second, he instinctively attempted to evade the incoming missile while simultaneously keeping an eye on the trajectory of the ball. What followed was sheer brilliance.

Maxwell’s right hand shot up with astonishing speed, and his fingers closed around the ball like a vice. There was no juggle, no second attempt—just a clean, one-handed catch that left Rohit in disbelief. Meanwhile, the crowd erupted in applause, and even Maxwell himself couldn’t hide his astonishment. His reaction was a mix of amazement and satisfaction as if he had just pulled off the unthinkable.
