A nail-biting Super 4s clash between Pakistan and Sri Lanka
The Super 4s clash of the Asia Cup 2023 between Sri Lanka and Pakistan will be etched in the memories of fans for years to come. The nail-biting encounter that went down to the wire saw Sri Lanka pull off a sensational two-wicket victory over the Green Team via the DLS method. The rain-reduced match had everyone on the edge of their seats, but the defending champions held their nerve to secure a berth in the final of the continental event.
The cost of victory: Maheesh Theekshana’s injury
While the victory was sweet, it came at a cost that could potentially haunt the Sri Lankan team as they prepare to face India in the final. The injury in question occurred to none other than spinner Maheesh Theekshana, a pivotal player in the Sri Lankan squad.
Theekshana, who had been performing exceptionally well throughout the tournament, found himself in a perilous situation during the clash against Pakistan. The spinner had been on fire, conceding just 14 runs in his first five overs, but the disaster struck in the later stages of the game, where he was seen hobbling off the field with support. It was a moment of agony for the young spinner and a major cause for concern for Sri Lanka.
