In the final match of the three-match ODI series at Rajkot on Wednesday, the Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell delivered a stellar performance with the ball.

The right-handed cricketer took a remarkable four-wicket haul, which included the prized wickets of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Washington Sundar and Shreyas Iyer.

Maxwell’s exceptional bowling spell also earned him the coveted ‘Man of the Match’ award, and his contributions played a pivotal role as Australia triumphed over India by a convincing margin of 66 runs in the game.

Australian batter Mitchell Marsh , who missed out on his century in the third ODI as he got dismissed on 96, recently shared his thoughts on Maxwell’s match-winning spell and his comeback to the national colours after six months.

“It was great to see him back”: Mitchell Marsh

Marsh applauded Maxwell for his breathtaking performance with the ball. The Attadale-born cricketer also expressed his happiness to see Maxwell back into the side after a good amount of time.

“It was a great spell. He came back after having not played much cricket for the last (few) months. It was great to see him back. It is the energy that Maxi brings to the team, his presence and the balance that he gives us,” said Marsh in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Marsh even opened up on Maxwell’s role in the Australian side for the upcoming ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 and opined that his role is vital in the forthcoming ICC event. Not just the batting, he also threw light on Maxwell’s flexibility in the team through his bowling abilities.

“We obviously know that his batting is absolutely class but what he can do with the ball, and the options that he will give us with our all-rounders is vital for us going into the World Cup. There may be wickets where he’s the third spinner through this World Cup. But just the ability for us to play the three quicks, a spinner and have Maxi who has the ability on the right wicket to bowl ten overs, think you see a lot of teams around the world have guys like Maxi; it gives you a lot of flexibility with the teams you can pick or the way you can structure your batting line-up” the 31-year-old added.
