Tim Southee will join New Zealand squad for the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 in India this week as he continues rehabilitation following surgery on a broken right thumb. The right handed-pacer suffered an injury during the fourth ODI against England at Lord’s on September 15.

The 34-year-old is determined to return to full fitness before the Black Caps’ tournament opener in Ahmedabad.

To provide further support and have a contingency plan in place, all-rounder Kyle Jamieson will also travel to India this week to take part in training sessions with the squad.

However, it’s notable that Jamieson has officially not been picked in the World Cup squad and, therefore, he will not participate in any warm-up games.

On Tuesday, New Zealand Cricket  announced  Southee’s inclusion in Cricket World Cup squad on Twitter Handle.

“News | Tim Southee’s been cleared to join the BLACKCAPS in India later this week as he continues to progress his recovery from surgery on his fractured right thumb. As a contingency, pace-bowler Kyle Jamieson will also join the World Cup squad in India this week to train. #CWC23,” the Blackcaps mentioned.
