The National Stadium witnessed an exhilarating contest as Pakistan faced off against South Africa in the 1st T20I of the South Africa Women Tour of Pakistan 2023. The contest turned out to be an absolute thriller where the hosts claimed a dramatic win on the final ball of the game.

Tazmin Brits powers Proteas to a competitive total

After being asked to bat, South Africa Women put up a formidable total of 150/3 in their allotted 20 overs. The top-order batters exhibited fine form, with Tazmin Brits emerging as the standout performer. She smashed a brilliant 78 runs off 64 deliveries, featuring 9 fours and 1 six.

Brits was well-supported by skipper Laura Wolvaardt, who contributed 44 runs off 38 balls, and Marizanne Kapp with 19 runs off 13 deliveries. The Proteas ended up finishing at 150/3 in their allotted 20 overs.

The Pakistan Women bowlers found it challenging to contain the South African batting lineup. The bowling figures for Pakistan innings were highlighted by Sana Fatima and Sadia Iqbal, each claiming a wicket, but conceding 38 and 22 runs, respectively.

In response, Pakistan Women chased down the target of 151 runs with 5 wickets in hand, securing a thrilling victory. Sidra Ameen (33 runs) and Bismah Maroof (37 runs) provided a solid foundation, while Aliya Riaz (28 runs) played a crucial role in the middle order. The finishing touches were applied by the steady performance of Muneeba Ali (19 runs).

Despite some good spells by the South African bowlers, particularly Kapp, who took 1 wicket for 24 runs, and Nonkululeko Mlaba who bowled economically, Pakistan successfully reached the target in the final over. Despite being on the losing side, Brits was rewarded with the Player of the Match for her outstanding performance with the bat.
