India’s star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has recently made a startling revelation that has taken the cricketing world by storm. Discussing India’s impressive performance in the Asia Cup 2023 on his official YouTube channel, Ashwin recalled an old conversation with former India skipper Virat Kohli where the Delhi-born cricketer picked the most dangerous batter in the death overs.

Virat Kohli picks Rohit Sharma over MS Dhoni as opposition captain’s nightmare in death overs

Ashwin stated that Kohli chose Rohit Sharma as the opposition captain’s nightmare in the end overs rather than one of the best finishers in the game, MS Dhoni. The India spinner also shed light on the reason Kohli gave for his surprising choice.

It is worth mentioning that Rohit  is in great touch currently and showcased his batting prowess by smashing back-to-back half-centuries in the Super 4s of Asia Cup 2023. The India skipper scored a brilliant 56 runs against Pakistan, followed by a 53-run knock in the subsequent match against Sri Lanka.

Speaking about Team India and Rohit’s sublime touch on his YouTube channel, Ashwin shared a fascinating anecdote from an old conversation with Kohli where the India maestro lavished praise on Rohit and termed him a more dangerous batter than Dhoni in the death overs.

“5-6 years back, Virat Kohli and I had a discussion while Rohit was batting. I don’t remember which match it was. Seeing Rohit bat, I was thinking, ‘Where do you even bowl to him? If Rohit is set after 15-20 overs.’ Kohli asked me, ‘Do you know who is a captain’s nightmare at the death?’ I asked, ‘Is it Dhoni?’ Kohli was like, ‘No, it is Rohit.’ When I asked him why, he said you won’t know where to bowl,” recalled Ashwin.

As far as Kohli’s form is concerned, the 34-year-old is also in great form. Although Virat couldn’t score big against Sri Lanka, he hammered his 47th ODI ton against Pakistan and played a significant role in India’s record win over the arch-rivals.
