South Africa Women registered a remarkable victory over New Zealand Women in the 2nd ODI of an ICC Championship Match at City Oval on Thursday (September 28), continuing their impressive form in the New Zealand Women tour of South Africa 2023.

New Zealand Women Innings:

The match began with New Zealand Women electing to bat after winning the toss. Their innings concluded with a total of 253 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in 49.5 overs. Amelia Kerr was the standout performer for New Zealand, scoring a brilliant 88 runs off 110 balls. Her innings included 14 fours, anchoring the innings with determination.

Among the bowlers for South Africa Women, Nadine de Klerk shone brightly, claiming 3 crucial wickets while conceding 44 runs in her 8.5 overs. Nonkululeko Mlaba also contributed significantly, taking 3 wickets for 41 runs in her 10 overs.

South Africa Women Innings:

In response, South Africa Women put on a splendid batting display, reaching the target with ease. They scored 257 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 45.2 overs, securing victory and taking the series lead. Captain Laura Wolvaardt was the star of the innings, amassing an exceptional 124 runs off 141 balls, featuring 15 boundaries.

Sune Luus also played a crucial role, contributing 53 runs off 57 balls, including 5 fours and 1 six. Marizanne Kapp added to the momentum with 45 runs off 49 balls.

Lea Tahuhu was the leading wicket-taker for New Zealand Women, with 2 scalps fo 40 runs. However, South Africa Women’s batters managed to maintain their dominance throughout the innings.

South Africa Women emerged victorious by 7 wickets, thanks to their excellent batting performance.

Player of the Match:

Laura Wolvaardt was named the Player of the Match for her outstanding century, which played a pivotal role in her team’s triumph.

With this win, South Africa Women have taken a 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
