India embarked on their Super 4 stage conquest in the Asia Cup 2023 with a thrilling victory against their bitter rivals Pakistan at Colombo on Monday, September 11.

The Men in Blue hammered a massive 356 runs on the board batting first, courtesy to the tonnes of Virat Kohli (122) and KL Rahul (111), and then bundled up the Green Team on just 128, registering a massive 228 runs victory.

In fact, India outshined Pakistan in every aspect of the game. The batters brutally dealt with the formidable Pakistan bowling attack and amassed a massive total. While Virat and Rahu; registered a century, the opening duo of skipper Rohit Sharma (56) and Shubman Gill (58) completed their half-centuries.

Talking about the bowling, pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj left no stones unturned to trick the Pakistan batters, and the rest of the job was done by the wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav (5/25), who destroyed the opponent’s batting lineup, completing his second five-wicket haul in ODI cricket.

“Puri tarah se dhul diya”: Sunil Gavaskar

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has heaped praises at Team India for their stunning performance. He mentioned that India completely wiped off Pakistan, just like a washerman beats a cloth in a dhobi ghat.

“Forget about the biggest victory, puri tarah se dhula diya (we just hammered them), just as you wash clothes in a dhobi ghat. If you are a good team, you don’t let the result of the previous match affect you. If they think too much about it, they won’t be able to concentrate on the next match. I don’t expect Pakistan to make such a mistake” Gavaskar said while speaking to India Today.

The former Indian captain also applauded Rahul, who has made his comeback into international cricket with a remarkable century. The 74-year-old also pat on the back of Bumrah, who is back in the national side after a long time and is giving extraordinary performances with the ball.

“KL Rahul not only scored a century but also kept wickets,” he added. “He made a big statement amid all the talk about his fitness. He proved that he is completely fit. Jasprit Bumrah, too, looked in great rhythm. His run-up looked good, and he swung the ball both ways. Even a world-class batter like Babar Azam was unable to play him,” he added.
