A recently surfaced video on social media has captured the public’s attention, featuring the Indian cricket legend Kapil Dev. In this video, Kapil can visibly seen being taken into a building by two unidentified individuals, seemingly against his will. 

This video clip rapidly spread across various social media platforms, leading Gautam Gambhir, the former cricketer turned politician, to share it on his Twitter account.

In a tweet, Gambhir expressed his deep concerns and apprehensions regarding the content and implications of the video. “Anyone else received this clip, too? Hope it’s not actually @therealkapildev and that Kapil Paaji is fine!” mentioned Gambhir.

In an unexpected twist, it has been revealed that the viral video featuring the former Indian captain, being led into a room by two unidentified men was part of a promotional shoot for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. The grand ICC event is scheduled to take place in India from October 5- November 19.

Disney+Hotstar, the official broadcasters of the CWC 2023, released the official advertisement clip on their Twitter handle and captioned it as, “@therealkapildev paaji ko kidnap kyun karna? #DisneyPlusHotstar hai na! Dekho poora ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup bilkul FREE on mobile! Data saver mode ke saath! #ItnaSabFreeKa #WorldCupOnHotstar.”

Gautam Gambhir reacts

Gambhir has shared the full clip of the official video on Twitter and praised Kapil for his acting performance.

“Areh @therealkapildev paaji well played! Acting ka World Cup bhi aap hi jeetoge! Ab hamesha yaad rahega ki ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is free on @DisneyPlusHS mobile,” Gambhir tweeted.

Kapil Dev, whose international career commenced in October 1978 against Pakistan, made an indelible mark on the cricket world. One of the defining moments of his career was during the 1983 World Cup tournament, where his heroics led India to secure their maiden ICC title, triumphing over the West Indies in the final. His contributions to Indian cricket were further recognized with the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards. The 64-year-old bid farewell to his playing career in 1994, leaving behind an enduring legacy in the game.
