In an intense final showdown at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field, the Indian Women’s cricket team emerged victorious, securing its first-ever gold medal iat the Asian Games. Facing off against Sri Lanka Women, India Women displayed their prowess, both in batting and bowling, to claim a well-deserved 19-run victory.

India Women’s Innings

India Women won the toss and chose to bat first, setting a target of 117 runs for Sri Lanka Women. Smriti Mandhana was the star performer for India, leading the charge with a commanding 46 runs off 45 deliveries, including 4 fours and one six. Jemimah Rodrigues provided valuable support with her 42 runs off 40 balls. However, the Sri Lankan bowlers, led by Udeshika Prabodhani, Sugandika Kumari and Inoka Ranaweera managed to take crucial wickets at regular intervals. India Women concluded their innings at 116/7 after 20 overs.

Sri Lanka Women’s Innings

Chasing a target of 117, Sri Lanka batters faced a challenging task against the disciplined Indian bowling attack. Hasini Perera was the top scorer for Sri Lanka, contributing 25 runs off 22 balls, while Nilakshi de Silva added 23 runs to the total. However, the Indian bowlers, particularly Titas Sadhu (6/3), Rajeshwari Gayakwad (2/20), Devika Vaidya (1/15) and Pooja Vastrakar (1/20), maintained pressure and picked up wickets consistently. Sri Lanka Women finished their innings at 97/8 after 20 overs.

India Women secured a 19-run victory, defending their total of 116/7 against Sri Lanka Women’s 97/8. With this win, India clinched the gold medal in the Asian Games Women’s T20I 2023 tournament, displaying their dominance in the format.
