The encounter had commenced with Pakistan winning the toss and opting to bowl first. India had made two changes to their playing XI, with the injured Shreyas Iyer being replaced by KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah returning to the Indian side.

Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill set the stage on fire with a spectacular start.
