The highly anticipated clash between Pakistan and India in the Asia Cup 2023 ended in a frustrating stalemate as the rain played spoilsport at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

India managed to post a total of 266 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in their allotted 50 overs. The Pakistan fast bowlers justified their reputation by dismantling India’s top-order batsmen in favorable conditions. However, it was Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya who came to India’s rescue when they were struggling at 66 for 4.

Both Kishan and Pandya were the top scorers for India. Kishan played a crucial knock of 82 runs off 81 balls, while Pandya contributed 87 runs off 90 balls. The duo ended up forming a crucial partnership of 138 runs for the fifth wicket.

Shaheen Afridi was the star with the ball for Pakistan, taking 4 wickets for 35 runs in his 10-over spell. Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf also chipped in with three wickets each.

Unfortunately, Pakistan’s innings couldn’t commence due to persistent rain, and the match was officially called off without a ball being bowled in their innings. The match ended with no result, leaving both teams share a point each.

Pakistan also secured a place in the Super 4 stage as they have registered an emphatic win against Nepal in the tournament opener on August 30.
