In a thrilling encounter, the third match of the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) took place at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. The contest featured the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the Barbados Royals in a closely-fought battle.

The match turned out to be a nail-biter, with the Barbados Royals securing a hard-fought victory, prevailing by a margin of just 3 wickets. The Royals successfully chased down the target set by the Warriors.

Warriors Set a Competitive Total

Opting to bat first, the Guyana Amazon Warriors managed to put up a competitive total of 146/4. Notable contributions came from Sophie Devine (42 off 40) and Natasha McLean (38 off 26), who played pivotal roles in setting the target.

In their chase, the Barbados Royals got off to a steady start, and their skipper, Hayley Matthews, looked in good touch. Matthews displayed her class by striking four boundaries during her innings.

Shreyanka Patil’s Memorable Delivery

However, the defining moment of the match occurred in the 7th over when Indian star Shreyanka Patil, representing the Guyana Amazon Warriors, delivered an exceptional ball. Patil approached the crease from over the wicket and released a fullish delivery that sharply nipped back in.

Matthews, who had been anchoring the Royals’ innings with confidence, attempted a late square cut to send the ball to the boundary. But the ball deviated significantly, leaving her stunned as it dislodged the stumps. Her dismissal turned out to be a pivotal moment in the match.

Despite losing Matthews, the Royals managed to maintain their composure, securing victory with just 4 balls to spare and 3 wickets in hand. Their ability to handle the pressure and remain focused ultimately led to their triumph.
