India’s leg-spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal, has kicked off his County Championship 2023 stint with Kent in style, securing three wickets against Nottinghamshire in a Division One fixture.
Chahal’s sensational debut for Kent
After being omitted from the squad for both the Asia Cup 2023 and the ODI World Cup 2023, the 33-year-old made a resounding return with a stellar performance, registering impressive figures of 29-10-63-3. Chahal showcased his skills by dismissing Nottinghamshire’s top-order batters, including Matthew Montgomery, Lyndon James and Calvin Harrison, playing a pivotal role in restricting them to 219/8 at the end of Day 2 in response to Kent’s commanding 446.

A ripper that left stumps in shambles
A significant moment in the match was Chahal’s initial dismissal of James. Chahal, delivering a splendid leg-spinner from around the wicket, aimed at the middle stump, enticing James into a defensive shot. However, the ball spun sharply, eluding James’ bat and disturbing his off-stump. This exquisite delivery showcased Chahal’s exceptional skills with the ball.

Ups and downs in Chahal’s cricketing journey
Chahal has joined Kent for a stint that includes three County matches, featuring contests against Nottinghamshire and Lancashire at their home ground, as well as an away match against Somerset. This season, Kent had also enlisted the services of Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh, who participated in five matches and scalped an impressive 13 wickets. Despite being a consistent member of the Indian T20 squad, the Jind-born cricketer hasn’t featured in ODI cricket since January this year. His most recent involvement with the Indian team was during the five-match T20I series against the West Indies.
