In the lead-up to a crucial clash between India and Bangladesh in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Pakistani actress Sehar Shinwari has ignited a social media firestorm with a series of contentious tweets, triggering a wave of intense backlash and fervent debates across X (formerly Twitter).

Sehar Shinwari makes blunt remarks against India

Shinwari, known for her outspoken persona and active presence on social media, took to X to express her views on the much-anticipated match, but her comments quickly veered into controversial and provocative territory. In her first tweet, she remarked, “Guys Bangladesh India ko pelney wala hai (Guys, Bangladesh will thrash India). Take screenshot of my tweet and show it me later.”

The tweet swiftly gained traction, drawing the ire of both Indian and Bangladeshi cricket enthusiasts who perceived it as an incendiary statement fuelling unnecessary tension in an already charged atmosphere.

Further stoking the flames, Shinwari continued with another tweet that read, “Only Bangladesh team can teach Indian team a good lesson.”

She didn’t stop here and wrote: “Why these Indians are so much jealous of Pakistan Bangla friendship? It is really hurtening for them that despite they broken us in 71, we two nations still support each others in cricket against India.”

Her words, laced with nationalistic fervour, drew criticism from various quarters, emphasizing the need for responsible communication, especially in the context of sensitive sporting rivalries.

While Shinwari’s tweets garnered polarized responses, several social media users condemned her remarks, calling for restraint and sportsmanship ahead of the high-stakes encounter.

The most recent encounter between these two teams took place during the Asia Cup 2023 in September, just before the start of the ICC World Cup 2023. Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan was awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ as his side defeated India by 6 runs. Despite a commendable performance by opening batter Shubman Gill, who scored 121 off 133 balls and all-rounder Axar Patel‘s 34-ball 42, India fell short of registering a win.
