In the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 clash between defending champions England and Bangladesh at the picturesque HPCA stadium in Dharamshala, English batter Dawid Malan has delivered a sensational performance, securing his maiden century in the World Cup and marking his sixth century in the ODI format overall.

The proficient left-handed batter has not only etched his name in the annals of cricket history by becoming the fastest player to amass six ODI centuries, but also became the oldest player for England to score a century in the World Cup.

The 36-year-old cricketer achieved this incredible milestone in just his 23rd ODI appearance, showcasing his extraordinary talent and consistency in the limited-overs format.

England’s batting domination

Earlier in the game, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bowl, a decision made by their skipper, Shakib Al Hasan. On the other side, England inducted pace bowling all-rounder Reece Topley into their lineup, making a strategic change by replacing Moeen Ali.

However, Shakib’s choice to field first seemed to backfire as the English batters displayed formidable resilience against the Bangla Tigers’ bowling attack. The opening duo of Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow set the tone for England, forging an impressive partnership of 115 runs for the initial wicket. Bairstow’s substantial contribution ended when Shakib dismissed him after a robust knock, during which he amassed 52 runs.

Nevertheless, It was Malan who shone brightly in the game, forging a significant partnership with Joe Root, accumulating a massive 151-run alliance. Malan departed after scoring an impressive 140. The Roehampton-born cricketer’s outstanding knock undoubtedly played a pivotal role in England’s commanding position in the match.
