New Zealand have continued their domination in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, having won their second consecutive match in the tournament on Monday. The Black Caps faced the Netherlands at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad and registered a brilliant victory by a margin of 99 runs.

Batters help New Zealand post a formidable total

Batting first, New Zealand’s batting prowess was on full display as they posted a formidable total of 322/7 in their allotted 50 overs. Opener Devon Conway laid a solid foundation with 32 runs, while Will Young (70), Rachin Ravindra (51), Daryl Mitchell (48), and Tom Latham (53) contributed significantly to the scoreboard. All-rounder Mitchell Santner provided a late surge with his explosive 36 off 17 deliveries.

Among the Dutch bowlers, Aryan Dutt and Paul van Meekeren picked up two wickets each, but they struggled to contain the Kiwi batsmen. New Zealand’s innings featured a mix of stylish strokeplay and powerful hitting, with a total of 17 fours and 7 sixes in their innings.

Santner demolishes the Netherlands

Chasing a challenging target of 323 runs for victory, the Netherlands faced an uphill battle. Despite Colin Ackermann‘s valiant 69-run effort, the Dutch team struggled to maintain the required run rate. They were eventually bowled out for 223 in 46.3 overs, falling short by 99 runs.

New Zealand’s bowlers, led by Santner, made life difficult for the Dutch batsmen. Santner took a sensational five-wicket haul and became the first-ever Kiwi bowler to take a 5-fer for New Zealand in the World Cup. Matt Henry also made a notable contribution with three wickets, while Trent Boult and Ravindra chipped in with crucial breakthroughs.
