In the 29th match of the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023, the India versus England clash at the Ekana Cricket Stadium garnered significant attention, particularly regarding two of the wold’s best batters – Virat Kohli and Joe Root.

The Lucknow crowd and fans back home had high hopes for an extraordinary display of batting prowess from both Kohli and Root. However, they disappointed the spectators by getting out for ducks.

While Kohli faced nine balls and departed after playing an aerial shot shot in the first innings, Root was dismissed on his very first ball, trapped LBW during England’s run chase.

This marked the first occasion in the history of ODI World Cups when No. 3 batters of both teams got out without scoring a run.

In fact, both Kohli and Root recorded a duck for the first time in their illustrious ODI World Cup careers.

As for the game’s progression, after 30 overs, England managed to score 101 runs but have lost eight wickets in their pursuit of the 230-run target.

India posted 229/9 on the scoreboard

Put in to bat first, India posted a competitive total of 229 for 9 in their stipulated 50 overs. Skipper Rohit Sharma (87), middle-order batters Suryakumar Yadav (49), KL Rahul (39) and tailender Jasprit Bumrah (16) contributed to the team’s total.

Left-arm pacer David Willey was the pick of the bowlers for England as he finished with figures of 10-2-45-3.
