India‘s captain, Rohit Sharma, has made a remarkable ascent in the ICC Men’s ODI Rankings for batters after delivering stellar performances against Afghanistan and Pakistan in the ongoing World Cup 2023.

Rohit Sharma surpasses Virat Kohli in ODI rankings for batters

Rohit’s breathtaking 131 off 84 balls against Afghanistan in Delhi, followed by an imperious 86 off 63 balls against arch-rivals Pakistan in Ahmedabad, has propelled him to the 6th position in the batters’ chart, boasting 719 rating points. This move sees him leapfrog Virat Kohli, who currently resides in 9th place with 711 rating points. It’s the first time Rohit has overtaken his teammate in ODI cricket.

Shubman Gill leads the way for Indian batters

Shubman Gill, despite missing the first two games due to dengue, holds the highest ranking among Indian batters at No. 2 with 818 rating points, second only to Pakistan‘s skipper Babar Azam, who tops the chart with 836 rating points. South Africa’s Quinton de Kock, who began the tournament with consecutive centuries against Sri Lanka and Australia, now occupies the third position. His remarkable performances have been instrumental in his rise through the ODI rankings, closely followed by his teammate Rassie van der Dussen in fourth place. Meanwhile, Ireland‘s Harry Tector holds the fifth position.

Trent Boult closing in on the top spot in bowling rankings

New Zealand‘s Trent Boult (659) is on the cusp of seizing the top position in the ODI Bowling Rankings after his impressive show with the ball in CWC 2023. Boult now trails the current No. 1, Josh Hazlewood (660) of Australia, by just a single rating point, making the competition for the numero uno position intensely gripping.

Spinners climbing the rankings ladder

Afghanistan‘s star spinner, Rashid Khan, has elevated his standing by two places to claim the fourth position in the bowling rankings. South Africa’s left-arm spinner, Keshav Maharaj, made a significant jump of seven spots, securing the fifth position alongside Mujeeb Ur Rahman among the top bowlers.

Jasprit Bumrah’s remarkable comeback

India’s Jasprit Bumrah, who made a remarkable return from injury, has made a considerable stride of seven places in the rankings to reach the joint 14th position, sharing it with South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada. Bumrah’s resurgence has been nothing short of impressive.

In the ODI All-rounder Rankings, Bangladesh‘s skipper, Shakib Al Hasan, maintains his stronghold in the No. 1 spot with 343 rating points. His all-round skills make him a formidable force in the world of ODI cricket.
