Former Pakistan Inzamam-ul-Haq, who took up the crucial position of chief selector in August this year, has resigned from his post.
Reasons for Inzamam-ul-Haq leaving the chief selector post
As per the reports in Pakistan media, Inzamam cited the team’s underwhelming display in the ongoing ICC Men’s ODI World Cup and the leaking of captain Babar Azam’s private Whatsapp chat as two of the primary reasons for his decision to step down.
Inzamam’s resignation will definitely raise questions about the direction and strategy of the Pakistan cricket team, with concerns being about the team’s ability to compete effectively at the international level.

During his tenures as chief selector in 2016, 2019 and 2023, Inzamam played a pivotal role in identifying and nurturing young talent and bringing fresh faces into the national squad. However, Pakistan’s recent performances have left fans and cricket enthusiasts disappointed, leading to speculation about potential changes in the team’s leadership and the coaching staff.
PCB will investigate the allegations in respect of conflict of interest
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to initiate the process of finding a suitable replacement for the vital role of chief selector, with the aim of revitalizing the team and enhancing its performance in the remaining World Cup.
Not only this, PCB has also set up a five-member fact-finding committee to investigate allegations in respect of conflict of interest reported in the media pertaining to the team selection process. The committee will submit its report and any recommendations to the PCB Management in an expeditious manner.
