In an astonishing turn of events, the cricketing world bore witness to the shattering of two top batting records within a mere span of one day.
South Africa‘s Aiden Markram achieved the fastest World Cup century in just 49 balls during a match against Sri Lanka in Delhi on Saturday. Meanwhile, in the ongoing Marsh Cup tie in Adelaide, South Australia’s Jake Fraser-McGurk outperformed all expectations by completing the fastest-ever List-A century in a mere 29 balls against Tasmania, breaking a record held by the legendary AB de Villiers since 2015.
De Villiers had previously achieved a century off just 31 balls against West Indies.
Jake Fraser-McGurk recounts breaking AB de Villiers’ milestone
Fraser-McGurk, the young sensation, confessed that he had no inkling about the record while at the crease; his sole focus was to send the ball soaring out of the ground as his team chased a daunting target of 436 runs.
“I had no idea [about the record]. I was just trying to hit the ball to the boundary. I came off and a few of the boys said you’ve broken a few records and the one that sticks out is AB against West Indies, I remember watching that innings, it was incredible,” Fraser-McGurk was quoted as saying by the ESPNcricinfo.

“I was seeing the ball so clearly and everything felt a lot slower than usual, I was in that zone, that mental state, which is something as a batter you try and be in every single time but it’s rare. To finally have that happen is very pleasing,” the 21-year-old concluded.
Despite Fraser-McGurk’s heroic effort of 125 runs from 38 balls, South Australia ultimately succumbed to a high-scoring defeat, being bowled out for 398 and falling short by 37 runs.
