The last time Team India clinched the ICC World Cup was back in 2011, with MS Dhoni leading the team to victory. Dhoni, not only the captain but also a vital finisher for India, played a pivotal role in that memorable tournament. Now, former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has made a prediction about who could step into the shoes of Dhoni as a finisher batting at number six in the ongoing ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 for India.
Suresh Raina identifies potential finisher for India
Raina believes that middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav has the potential to be a valuable asset for Team India in the tournament. He emphasized that Suryakumar could make a significant impact during the final overs of an innings.
“If anyone can make a huge impact in the death overs apart from MS Dhoni, then it’s Suryakumar Yadav,” Raina said to Sports Tak.

Suryakumar Yadav’s aggressive batting in ODI series against Australia
Suryakumar showcased his aggressive batting style in the recent three-match ODI series against Australia. The right-handed batter amassed 130 runs at an impressive average of 65 and maintained a strike rate of 139.78. He recorded two half-centuries in three innings.
Shubman Gill identified as India’s key player
Raina has shared his belief that Shubman Gill will play a pivotal role as India’s key player in the ODI World Cup 2023. According to the 36-year-old, Gill has successfully deciphered the formula for success in One Day International (ODI) cricket.
“Shubman Gill will be India’s strongest card. He has been in stunning form and has figured out how he needs to play in ODIs. He has spent some time with Virat and is batting with Rohit Sharma, who has hit double centuries. Gill has also hit a double century. Gill and Rohit’s pair will win the hearts of people, just like Sachin-Sehwag and Sachin-Ganguly did in the past,” the Muradnagar-born cricketer concluded.
