The fifth match of the ODI World Cup 2023 between India and Australia witnessed an exceptional bowling performance from Men in Blue after they lost the toss and were asked to field first in the contest. Indian bowlers have pushed Australia completely on the backfoot as half of their team went back to the pavilion with just 119 runs on the board.
Domination from Indian spinners
Although it was Jasprit Bumrah who gave India their first breakthrough in the form of Mitchell Marsh, the middle overs belonged to the spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja (3/28) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/42). They applied relentless pressure on the Australian batters, taking crucial wickets to further tighten India’s grip on the game.
Kuldeep Yadav cleans up Glenn Maxwell
Among all the wickets shared by Indian bowlers, one that stole the limelight and left cricket fans in awe was bagged by Kuldeep when he dismissed Glenn Maxwell off a sensational delivery.

It all happened on the fifth ball of the 36th over when Maxwell tried to pull a fast leg-break from Kuldeep that hurled itself off the pitch with impeccable precision. The length was not short enough for a comfortable pull shot, and Maxwell made a crucial error in judgment, swinging his bat too soon. As a result, he missed the ball entirely, which rushed past his ill-timed shot and proceeded to flatten the leg stump.

Australia’s struggle against Indian bowlers
Maxwell’s dismissal left Australia in a dire situation, struggling to put up a substantial score. The star all-rounder returned to the pavilion after adding just 15 runs off 25 deliveries to the team total and Australia eventually were bowled out for 199. It is worth mentioning that only David Warner and Steve Smith looked good during Aussie innings and managed to cross the 40-run mark.
