The ODI World Cup 2023 in India has been an exhilarating tournament marked by thrilling matches and outstanding performances. While the focus has largely been on the batting prowess of several teams in the world event so far, there are a few remarkable bowling units that have managed to make their presence felt as well.

India’s veteran all-rounder Suresh Raina recently weighed in on the best bowling combination of this year’s World Cup and revealed his preferred choice.

Suresh Raina’s illustrious career

Raina has been a crucial part of many of India’s historic victories, including the 2011 ODI World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. His versatility as an all-rounder and exceptional fielding skills have left a lasting impact on Indian cricket. The Uttar Pradesh-born cricketer has amassed 7988 international runs and was the first Indian to score centuries in all three formats.

In a recent interaction with Aaj Tak, Raina was asked to name the best bowling unit in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. The 36-year-old put forth his opinion without any hesitation and named India’s Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Hardik Pandya as the best bowling unit in the ongoing World Cup.

“Shami, (Mohammed) Siraj, (Jasprit) Bumrah, Jadeja, Kuldeep, Hardik – this, I feel, is the best combination for this World Cup,” said Raina.

Raina further went on to praise Shami for his remarkable five-wicket haul against New Zealand and highlighted how Shami’s presence can relieve the pressure on Hardik.

“Now that Shami has taken this five-wicket haul, Rohit has more options with three attacking bowlers who can operate in the death overs as well. It is some relief for Hardik as well because when these three bowl, the pressure will be waived off a bit. He can create pressure in his own way,” added the veteran all-rounder.

India’s dominance in ODI World Cup 2023

It’s noteworthy that India currently leads the ODI World Cup 2023 points table with an impeccable record of five consecutive wins and no losses. The success of the Indian team can be attributed to the remarkable performances of its players, both with the bat and the ball, as every member of the squad has contributed to the team’s undefeated campaign.
