New Zealand have continued their unbeaten run at the ICC Men’s ODI Word Cup 2023 after their emphatic win against Bangladesh at MA Chidambram Stadium in Chennai on Friday. It was Black Caps’ third consecutive victory, having registered triumphs against England and Netherlands.

Bangladesh faced a tough challenge in their innings, posting a total of 245/9 in their allotted 50 overs. Litton Das was dismissed early, scoring 0 runs off 1 ball. Tanzid Hasan contributed 16 runs off 17 balls, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz chipped in with 30 runs off 46 deliveries.

Captain Shakib Al Hasan played a crucial innings for Bangladesh, scoring 40 runs off 51 balls, including 3 fours and 2 sixes. Mushfiqur Rahim was the standout performer, notching up 66 runs off 75 balls, hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes. Mahmudullah also made a valuable contribution with 41 runs off 49 balls.

Among the bowlers for New Zealand, Lockie Ferguson was the pick of the lot, taking 3 wickets for 49 runs in his 10 overs. Trent Boult and Matt Henry picked up 2 wickets each, while Mitchell Santner and Glenn Phillips claimed 1 wicket each.

Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell lead New Zealand to victory

In response, New Zealand chased down the target with ease, finishing at 248/2 in 42.5 overs. Captain Kane Williamson led from the front with a sublime knock of 78 runs off 107 balls, including 8 fours and 1 six. However, he then got retired hurt.

Daryl Mitchell was the star of the show, scoring a blistering 89 runs off 67 balls, featuring 6 fours and 4 sixes. Devon Conway contributed 45 runs, and Glenn Phillips added 16 runs. For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman and Shakib picked up 1 wicket each, but they couldn’t do much to halt New Zealand’s charge. In the end, New Zealand comfortably won by 8 wickets.
