Bangladesh emerged victorious over Afghanistan in the 3rd match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Saturday. Bangladesh won the contest by 6 wickets, successfully chasing down Afghanistan’s paltry target of 156 runs.

Afghanistan, after winning the toss and electing to bat, found themselves facing a formidable Bangladesh bowling attack. They struggled to build substantial partnerships throughout their innings and were eventually bowled out for 156 runs in 37.2 overs.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the standout performer for Afghanistan, scoring 47 runs from 62 deliveries. However, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan proved to be the thorn in Afghanistan’s side, both picking up three wickets each. Bangladesh’s bowlers exhibited discipline and teamwork, ensuring that Afghanistan couldn’t post a more challenging total. Apart from Mehidy and Shakib, Mustafizur Rahman, and Shoriful Islam also chipped in with crucial wickets.

Mehidy, Najmul drive Bangladesh over the finish line
In their chase, Bangladesh approached the target with determination. Mehidy and Najmul Hossain Shanto played pivotal roles in securing the win. Mehidy showcased his all-round abilities and contributed a well-constructed 57 runs from 73 balls.
Similarly, Shanto anchored the innings with 59 runs from 83 balls, including a crucial six. Their partnership was crucial in steering Bangladesh to victory. While Afghanistan’s bowlers tried to create pressure, Bangladesh’s batters kept their composure and successfully reached the target. Fazalhaq Farooqi was the most successful bowler for Afghanistan, picking up 1 wicket for 19 runs in his five overs. In the end, Bangladesh achieved the target of 156 runs with ease, finishing at 158/4 in 34.4 overs.
