Netherlands recorded a commanding victory over Bangladesh in the 28th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 held at the iconic Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

After winning the toss, Netherlands elected to bat first and put up a total of 229 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Scott Edwards‘ resilient 68 and valuable contributions from Wesley Barresi (41) and Sybrand Engelbrecht (35) powered their innings. Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman and Mahedi Hasan led the bowling attack for Bangladesh, claiming 2 wickets each.

In response, Bangladesh struggled to find momentum in their batting and were eventually bowled out for 142 runs in 42.2 overs, falling short of the target by 87 runs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz top-scored for Bangladesh with 35 runs, while Paul van Meekeren starred for the Netherlands with 4 wickets. Aryan Dutt, Logan van Beek, Bas de Leede  and Colin Ackermann also contributed significantly to the Netherlands’ bowling effort, picking up crucial wickets to restrict Bangladesh’s scoring.

The Netherlands’ comprehensive performance with both bat and ball ultimately secured their victory, marking another memorable win for the team in the ongoing World Cup tournament.
