The defending champions, England, were expected to put on a show-stopping performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Yet, their journey thus far have been nothing short of nightmarish.

The Jos Buttler-led side suffered four defeats out of the five matches they have played, with their only win coming against Bangladesh. Their most recent loss came against Sri Lanka at Bangalore on October 26, which turned out to be a glaring testament to their shortcomings. The English batting order crumbled under pressure, leaving their bowlers with an insufficient total to defend.

Critics unload on England’s lackluster performance

The echoes of disappointment and disbelief reverberate through the cricketing world as England’s campaign in the ODI World Cup 2023 goes abruptly. Fans and critics alike had high hopes, but their dreams are getting crushed, and their voices are unleashing a torrent of criticism. The expectation of excellence and their dramatic fall from grace perplexed many.

One notable critique came from former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra, who issued particularly blunt remarks regarding the English side’s display in the tournament.

Aakash Chopra’s raspy words

Aakash, known for his astute analysis and candid opinions, didn’t hold back. His message to England is clear: they need to regroup quickly, or they might as well book their return tickets now, possibly at a discounted price, given the state of their performance in the tournament.

“What should I say about England? You haven’t left me in a position to say anything. Regroup a little and if it’s like this, you can book your return tickets now itself as you will get them slightly cheap, there is still some time left,” Aakash said in a video shared from his YouTube channel.

In his analysis, Aakash expressed his concerns, stating that he doubts England’s commitment to progress, as their style of play doesn’t reflect that ambition. The Agra-born cricketer admitted having respect for England but criticized the brand of cricket they currently exhibit, deeming the situation dire.

“I don’t feel you even want to progress because you are not playing cricket like that. I have a lot of respect for England but not for the cricket they are playing. You used to talk about the brand but the situation is very bad at the moment,” the 46-year-old added.
