In a historic turn of events, Afghanistan achieved a momentous victory by 69 runs over England in Arun Jailtley International Stadium in Delhi, marking their first-ever win against the English cricket team in any format. Mujeeb was the standout performer as he scored quickfire 28 and picked three wickets. The 22-year-old bowling in the second essay helped Afghanistan to restrict England to 215 while defending 284. For his exceptional all performance in the match, Mujeeb was rightfully named the Player of the Match.

He took to the platform to share pictures and a video of the touching moment with the young boy and revealed that the fan was, in fact, Indian.

“It’s not afghani boy it’s one young Indian boy so happy for ur win It was absolute pleasure meeting this little guy from India Delhi last night (Cricket is not just a game it’s an emotion). Big thank you to all our amazing fans for coming down and supporting us last night the love and support is overwhelming. We are grateful for your continuous support and we can’t wait for you to keep supporting us in the future. Thanks for love Delhi,” Mujeeb wrote.

A landmark victory for Afghanistan

The victory over England held immense significance for Afghanistan as it marked only their second win in the history of the World Cup. Their inaugural World Cup victory came in 2015 against Scotland. This historic triumph against a cricketing giant like England adds to Afghanistan’s growing presence on the international cricket stage.

With this historic win under their belts, Afghanistan are set to face New Zealand in their upcoming clash, which will take place in Chennai on Wednesday.
