Australia are set to build on their impressive resurgence in the ODI World Cup 2023 as they gear up to face the Netherlands at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, October 25. The five-time champions started the tournament with disastrous defeats against India and South Africa but have rebounded with dominant wins over Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

Andrew McDonald discusses Travis Head’s status for the Netherlands match

Before the crucial game against the Netherlands, Australian Coach Andrew McDonald provided an eagerly awaited update on Travis Head‘s availability. Head had been sidelined due to a left-hand injury sustained during Australia’s tour of South Africa last month, causing him to miss the first four fixtures of the quadrennial event.

Head, however, displayed full commitment after joining the squad in his training sessions, showcasing fine form and recovery from his hand injury. McDonald expressed optimism about Head’s availability for the Netherlands match.

“We’re really optimistic that he’ll be available should all things go well today and as I said, most importantly, the way he pulls up tomorrow will be a key factor. It’s been really impressive the way he’s gone about his recovery,” McDonald was quoted as saying by the Reuters.

While Head’s return could potentially lead to Marnus Labuschagne making way, McDonald emphasized that the decision was not straightforward.

“We’ll just wait and see what it looks like in terms of the Netherlands, if Head is fit,” the 42-year-old concluded.

Australia’s standings and ambitions in the tournament

In the ongoing tournament, Australia currently occupies the fourth position in the points table with four points. They are focused on securing another victory against the Netherlands to solidify their position and advance further in the competition. Australia’s resurgence and Head’s potential return signal a renewed determination to make a significant impact in the World Cup.
