Dutch all-rounder Bas de Leede found himself in an unwanted record-breaking position during the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

During the high-stakes encounter against the formidable Australian team at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, de Leede unfortunately etched his name in the history books for conceding the most runs in a One-Day International (ODI) match. The lopsided contest saw Australia’s batters mercilessly pounce on de Leede’s bowling, leaving the young Netherlands cricketer grasping for answers.

Australia batters take Bas de Leede to the cleaners

The match witnessed a relentless onslaught from the Australian batters, with de Leede’s figures taking a significant hit as he struggled to contain the aggressive batting display. Despite his best efforts, the Dutch pacer was unable to find a way to stem the flow of runs, with the opposition taking advantage of every loose delivery. The relentless assault resulted in de Leede conceding an astonishing total of 115 runs in his full quota of 10 overs, setting a record that no bowler wishes to be associated with.

David Warner and Glenn Maxwell smash brilliant centuries for Australia

Choosing to bat first, Australia’s opening batter David Warner delivered an outstanding performance, scoring a remarkable century with 104 runs to his name. Meanwhile, the team’s all-rounder Glenn Maxwell emerged as the standout performer of the match, exhibiting an explosive batting display that allowed him to achieve a century off only 40 balls, surpassing the previous record set by South Africa’s Aiden Markram. Markram had smashed a hundred in just 49 balls against Sri Lanka at the same venue on October 7.
