The 21st match of the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 is nothing but a clash of the titans with two top teams New Zealand and India are taking on each other at the picturesque HPCA stadium in Dharamsala. Before this clash, the Black Caps are at the top spot while India follow them at the second position.
Daryl Mitchell shines with a stunning century
India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to field first. The decision started off well as New Zealand lost Devon Conway (0) and Will Young (17) in quick successions. However, what followed was nothing but a spectacular batting display from Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra.
The duo took on Indian bowling and demolished them all around the park. Ravindra, who was dropped early by Ravindra Jadeja during the 11th over, capitalized on the opportunity and accelerated the run flow.
Ravindra and Mitchell went on to form a tremendous partnership of 159 runs for the third wicket. The left-handed batter was eventually dismissed on 75 but Mitchell continued his assault on Indian bowlers and reached a fantabulous century.
The star all-rounder was dismissed on the penultimate delivery of the final over for a well-made 130, his career-best score in the 50-over format. Mitchell smacked 9 fours and 5 sixes during his eye-catching knock.

Mohammed Shami powers India’s fightback
There was a stage in the game when Mitchell and Ravindra were going smoothly and it appeared the Black Caps would easily cross the 300-run benchmark. However, Mohammed Shami, playing his first game of this year’s ODI World Cup, came out all guns blazing with his splendid bowling.
Shami, who had already taken a wicket of Young, broke the partnership of Mitchell and Ravindra by dismissing the left-handed batter in the 34th over. Shami didn’t just stop there as he kept bowling at the right areas to trouble the Kiwi batters in a high-pressure situation.
The experienced fast bowler went on to take three more wickets to complete his five-wicket haul and restricted New Zealand to 273 in 50 overs. Apart from Ravindra and Young, Shami dismissed the likes of Mitchell Santner (1), Matt Henry (0) and Mitchell to complete his five-wicket haul.

What a player Daryl Mitchell has become! Genuine all-format batter and so comfortable batting up the order. Another player who, by his attitude, has become the best he could be. So admirable.

That innings from Mitchell was a superb combo of brains and brawn. India made it tough for him in the latter overs and NZ mightn’t have enough, but geez he’s fun to watch. #INDvNZ #CWC23
