The relationship between Pakistan’s star cricketers, skipper Babar Azam and all-rounder Imad Wasim, has long been a subject of controversy and speculation. While many fans have perceived a strained connection between the two players, recent developments suggest that their bond may not be as harmonious as previously thought.
Turbulent times at Karachi Kings in the PSL
The rift between Imad and Babar seemingly began during their time at the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Reports of disagreements and tensions within the team cast a shadow over their working relationship, which continued to be a point of discussion among fans.
Imad’s omission from the World Cup squad adds fuel to the fire
Leading up to the ongoing ODI World Cup, speculations were rife that Imad would secure a spot in the national squad, primarily due to Pakistan’s limited spin options. However, much to the surprise of fans, Imad was not selected for the World Cup squad. This unexpected omission further intensified the speculation surrounding the duo’s relationship.
Notably, Imad has not represented Pakistan in One Day Internationals (ODIs) since 2020, and his last appearance for the national team was in a T20I series against New Zealand in April earlier this year.

Imad Wasim breaks his silence
In a recent interview on the chat show “Haarna Mana Hay,” Imad broke his silence on his relationship with the national team’s skipper, Babar. He acknowledged that their relationship is complicated but refuted the notion that they are enemies.
“The answer to this question is complicated, but there is no truth in the fact that we are enemies,” said Imad when asked about his current relationship with Babar.
Pakistan’s campaign in World Cup 2023
In terms of Pakistan’s performance at the 2023 ODI World Cup, they are currently positioned in fourth place on the points table. Pakistan have won three out of their four matches in the competition thus far. Their next match is scheduled against Australia on October 20. It is important to note that Pakistan will be entering this contest following a disappointing 7-wicket loss to India in Ahmedabad. The team will be keen to bounce back and make their mark in the tournament.
