The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 has been an event full of emotional ups and downs for cricket fans around the globe. This edition has seen some exhilarating matches as well as unexpected upsets that have made the tournament even more captivating.

Among all the teams participating in the event, Bangladesh is one nation whose journey has been a mix of highs and lows, with just one win in four matches so far. Nevertheless, despite having just one win, they currently occupy the sixth position on the points table and are just two spots away from the top four.

Shakib al Hasan’s optimism amidst setbacks

Although Bangladesh have faced setbacks with three early losses, their captain, Shakib al Hasan, remains determined and optimistic about their chances of making it to the top four.

It is worth mentioning that Shakib missed Bangladesh’s last game against India due to an injury. However, he is hopeful and confident about his team’s potential to secure a spot in the semi-finals. Shakib believes that his team is not in an irredeemable situation and aims to rejuvenate their momentum with a crucial win over South Africa.

Shakib’s insight on Bangladesh’s path to the semi-finals

In his recent interaction with the media before the South Africa clash, Shakib opened up about Bangladesh’s path to the semi-finals and expressed hope in their ability to clinch victories in the remaining matches. He also acknowledged how the outcomes of other teams’ matches have been working in Bangladesh’s favour but emphasized the importance of his team taking responsibility for their fate.

“South Africa has won three out of their four matches, putting them in a favourable position. However, that doesn’t mean it’s all over for us. We still have five matches left, and tomorrow, we have a significant game against South Africa. If we can secure a victory in that match, we will regain our momentum and find ourselves in a very promising position,” said Shakib.

“Even though we haven’t won many games, our position in the points table is not as bad as it could be. The outcomes of other teams’ matches are favouring us at the moment. However, now, it’s our responsibility to take control of our destiny,” he added.

The unpredictable race for the spot in the top four

Notably, England, Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, and Afghanistan have also managed just one win in the ongoing tournamnet. This makes the race for the top four spots all the more intriguing and unpredictable.
