England‘s skipper Jos Buttler exhibited remarkable athleticism with a remarkable catch to dismiss his Sri Lankan counterpart Kusal Mendis in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 clash on Thursday, October 26.

Jos Buttler’s stunning catch to remove Kusal Mendis

The dramatic moment unfolded during the Sri Lanka’s innings. In the second ball of the sixth over, delivered by David Willey, Mendis was presented with a golden opportunity, as the ball was full and directed towards the leg side, but his execution faltered, resulting in the ball skying into the air beyond the wicketkeeper. However, Buttler, displaying unwavering focus and incredible skill, locked onto the spiraling ball and executed a remarkable catch. This catch proved pivotal for England, especially since they were at the moment defending a relatively low total.

England’s low-scoring innings

In the game so far, Buttler, secured the toss and elected to bat first at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Despite the pitch typically favoring batters in the CWC 2023, England’s innings turned out to be an exception. Dawid Malan (28) and Jonny Bairstow (30) initiated a promising start, forging a partnership of 45 runs in 6.3 overs. Nevertheless, Sri Lankan bowlers, including Angelo Mathews, who made a return to the team, made breakthroughs and successfully contained England’s batters. Eventually, the defending champions were bowled out for a meager 156 runs in 33.2 overs

Sri Lankan bowlers shine in restricting England

Lahiru Kumara emerged as the standout bowler for Sri Lanka, picking three crucial wickets, while Kasun Rajitha and Mathews contributed with two wickets each. This was an exceptional bowling performance, particularly considering Bengaluru’s reputation as a paradise for batters in this quadrennial event.
