Bangladesh‘s performance in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 has been disastrous. Although they started positively with a convincing victory over Afghanistan, their campaign has since taken a downturn, with four consecutive losses in the ongoing tournament. As a result, the Bangla tigers find themselves languishing at the second-bottom spot on the points table.

Shakib’s shocking return to Bangladesh

A surprising development occurred as the Bangladesh squad made their way to Kolkata for their forthcoming match. The team’s skipper, Shakib al Hasan, has returned to Dhaka before their next scheduled clash against the Netherlands, which is set to take place at the Eden Gardens on Saturday, October 28th. This unexpected move has raised questions and curiosity among cricket enthusiasts about the reasons for his return.

Intriguing reason behind Shakib’s return

Following Bangladesh’s defeat to South Africa by 149 runs in Mumbai, Shakib arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon. Upon his return, he wasted no time and immediately headed to the Shere Bangla National Stadium to train with his mentor, Nazmul Abedeen Faheem. This training session was intensive, lasting for three hours, during which the 36-year-old primarily focused on practicing with throwdowns in the nets.

Revealing the reason behind Shakib’s sudden return, Faheem clarified that the skipper’s current stint in Dhaka is centered around a three-day training program, after which he will return to India to rejoin his team and participate in the remaining event.

“He arrived today. We will be training for three days, today, tomorrow and day after, and then he will return to Kolkata. We worked on his batting today,” Fahim said as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.

Faheem further mentioned that Shakib is likely to find his current training regimen comfortable and intends to tailor each session to the left-handed all-rounder’s preferences.

“Shakib probably feels comfortable working this way, I am not sure what we are going to do next – I will take each session as he wants,” he added.
