In a historic moment at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, Virat Kohli, the Indian cricket maestro, achieved a remarkable feat by scoring his 50th ODI century during the first semi-final clash against New Zealand in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. Kohli’s outstanding performance not only secured India’s victory by 70 runs but also surpassed the legendary Sachin Tendulkar‘s world record of 49 ODI centuries.

Alyssa Healy pays tribute to Virat Kohli

Among the admirers of Kohli’s extraordinary achievement was Alyssa Healy, the renowned Australian Women cricketer and wife of star pacer Mitchell Starc. Healy, expressing her admiration, took to her official Instagram to share a heartfelt message about Kohli’s incredible milestone.

In her Instagram story, Healy wrote, “I feel very lucky to be in the generation who have watched Virat Kohli do special things.”

Alyssa Healy’s fitness raises questions ahead of India tour

While Healy showered praise on Kohli, concerns arise about her availability for the upcoming multi-format tour of India. Healy, named in the Australian Women’s 16-member squad, recently concluded her WBBL season after a dog bite to her index finger. The injury has cast doubt on her readiness for the tour, with a one-off Test scheduled to begin on December 21 in Mumbai.

Australia’s contingency plans

Acknowledging the uncertainty surrounding Healy’s fitness, Australian Women’s coach Shelley Nitschke addressed the situation. Nitschke expressed hope that Healy would recover in time but emphasized the need for contingency plans. Beth Mooney, named in the squad as a second wicketkeeper, stands as a potential replacement.

“We’re hopeful that Midge is going to be okay, but there’s a lot to play out between now and then. We’ve got Moons there in the squad as well, who’s a fantastic keeper in her own right,” stated Nitschke.

Nitschke assured that the team is prepared to explore other options should Healy be ruled out. The focus remains on Healy’s return-to-play plan, and the coaching staff is optimistic that she will be available for the Test match. However, Nitschke acknowledged that uncertainties persist, and the team will provide Healy with ample opportunity to prove her fitness before making any decisions.
