Australia clinched their sixth ICC Men’s ODI World Cup title with a resounding win over the hosts India at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on last Sunday (November 19).
Australia’s thumping victory over India
Despite maintaining an unbeaten record in the tournament until then, Rohit Sharma’s Team India faltered at the big stage, posting just 240 runs on the scoreboard after put in to bat first.
Defending the set total, the Indian pacers did make an impact early in the innings by taking three wickets for just 47 runs. But as soon as the dew factor came in, it became easy for the Aussie batters to score runs at will. Riding on Travis Head‘s stellar century (137 off 120) and Marnus Labuschagne‘s gritty knock (58 not out off 110), Australia reached the finish line with six wickets in hand and 42 balls to spare.
