In a significant blow to the Australian cricket team’s campaign in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, a key star player has been ruled out of the tournament for an indefinite period. The player’s absence marks a significant setback for the team, prompting widespread concern and speculation within the cricketing community.

Mitchell Marsh returns home in the middle of ODI World Cup

According to Cricket Australia, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has returned home from the ODI World Cup 2023 late last night due to personal reasons. A timeline on his return to the ICC event is yet to be confirmed.

The news of Marsh’s unavailability was met with disappointment and concern among fans and cricket enthusiasts, who had been eagerly anticipating the player’s contribution to the team’s performance in the remaining tournament.

Mitchell Marsh’s performance and possible replacement in Australia’s playing XI

In six matches of the ongoing tournament, Marsh has amassed 225 runs at an average of 37.50 and a strike-rate of 91.46 with best score of 121 against Pakistan.

The Australian cricket team, known for its resilience and competitive spirit, now faces the challenging task of regrouping and adapting to the absence of Marsh. The team management and coaching staff are expected to recalibrate their strategies and roster as they strive to navigate the tournament without the influential presence of the sidelined player.

Meanwhile, Marcus Stoinis appears to be the top contender for Marsh’ replacement in the playing XI, having recuperated from a calf injury. Stoinis has so far played three match in CWC 2023, where his scores have been 5, 20 not out and 21. He also picked two crucial wickets during the game against Pakistan.

So now, with Marsh missing the upcoming matches, Steve Smith will bat at his favourite number 3 position. Initially filling in for Travis Head, Marsh lived up to expectations as he opened the batting. However, upon Head’s return to the team, Marsh moved to the No.3 position.
