Australian cricketer Travis Head has provided insights into his plans and considerations for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Despite having only one IPL stint with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) during the 2016-17 season, featuring in a total of 10 matches, Head is now expressing a willingness to participate in the upcoming IPL auction set for December. In the 2023 auction, where he carried a base price of ₹2 crore, he went unsold.

Travis Head’s IPL 2024 plans revealed

Currently representing Australia in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, Head emphasizes the importance of the IPL stint as a valuable opportunity to gain experience and learn in different formats.

“I was restricted a little bit on time last year with getting married. I will put myself in this year and hopefully get picked up and get an opportunity. It was nice to be involved in it a long time ago,” Head was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

Strategic considerations for T20 World Cup 2024

Despite his primary focus on Test cricket, where he has been a notable contributor to Australia’s success in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023, the explosive left-handed batter aims to “explore opportunities” and broaden his cricketing exposure across various formats. Head sees it as a significant precursor to the 2024 T20 World Cup scheduled in the West Indies and the USA.

“I feel like the game has evolved now and, next year, we have a massive block out, where I can play a fair bit of white-ball cricket if I get picked up or find myself in some teams around the world, so this is a path that I wanna try to explore,” the 29-year-old added.

“Having put all the eggs in the red-ball basket for a period of time now and I feel like I am really in good space mentally in my game and if I can transfer through formats well then I am eager to explore what those opportunities are and get more experience and learn,” the Adelaide-born cricketer concluded.

Head’s journey so far in the ODI World Cup 2023

Head’s return to the playing XI in the ODI World Cup after recovering from a hand fracture showcased his resilience, including a century in his comeback against New Zealand in Dharamshala. However, he has faced mixed fortunes with 21 runs in his subsequent three innings.
