The two-match Test series between Bangladesh and New Zealand is scheduled to kick off from Tuesday (November 28), with the second game set to start on December 06, Wednesday. The games will take place at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet and the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
In the lead-up to the Test series, the Kiwis demonstrated their prowess by clinching the three-match ODI series against the host 2-0, with the first fixture being washed out. This ODI series was unfolded before the commencement of the ODI World Cup 2023.
Bangladesh’s leadership transition
A noteworthy development for Bangladesh is the appointment of left-handed batter Najmul Hossain Shanto as the captain for the Test series. This marks Shanto’s debut as the leader of the Test side, drawing on his prior experience of captaining the team during the CWC 2023 in India when Shakib Al Hasan was sidelined due to injury.
Player absences for Bangladesh
However, Bangladesh will face challenges due to the absence of key players. Pacer Taskin Ahmed is sidelined with a shoulder injury, embarking on a rehabilitation journey. Regular Test skipper Shakib is also unavailable after sustaining a finger injury during the World Cup clash against Sri Lanka.
New Zealand’s squad update
Tim Southee will lead the Kiwi side, featuring prominent names like Devon Conway and Kane Williamson. After an impressive performance in the World Cup 2023, Rachin Ravindra returns to the Test squad, adding depth to the team. Additionally, Neil Wagner has been included in the squad, stepping in for the injured Matt Henry.
