The 48-day cricket spectacle garnered a staggering 518 million viewers, with a whopping 300 million tuning in for the final, marking it as the most-watched event of any kind in Indian television history. The peak TV concurrency reached an unprecedented high of 13 crore, and the digital domain was not far behind, with 5.9 crore concurrent viewers, setting a new world record.

The accessibility of the tournament on streaming platforms, especially Disney’s Hotstar, also contributed significantly to the record-breaking viewership, with 59 million glued to their screed during the summit clash.

Jay Shah’s gratitude

In the aftermath of this cricketing extravaganza, Shah took to Twitter to express his gratitude and joy. His tweet reflected not only the numerical success of the tournament but also the deep connection between the sport and its ardent fans.

“A staggering 30 Crore fans watched the @cricketworldcup 2023 Final on TV, making it the most watched event of any kind in Indian television history. Peak TV Concurrency also reached a historic high of 13 Crore (peak digital concurrency was 5.9 Crore, also a world record). We are again humbled by the love and passion Indian fans have for our sport. Thank you to all those who bleed blue… @StarSportsIndia @ICC @BCCI,” wrote Shah.

Record-breaking attendance

The ICC Men’s Cricket ODI World Cup 2023 also became the most attended in cricketing history, with a remarkable 1,250,307 fans filling stadiums across India. The electrifying atmosphere in the stands added to the overall spectacle as fans passionately cheered for their favourite teams, creating an unforgettable experience for players and spectators alike.
