In a highly anticipated 33rd match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, India took on Sri Lanka at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. The Men in Blue completely dominated the proceedings and won the contest by a massive margin by 302 runs. With the victory, India also qualified for the semi-final of the tournament.
Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer power India to a massive total
Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl, hoping to put the Indian batting lineup to the test. India got off to a poor with captain Rohit Sharma falling early after scoring 4 runs. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli then joined hands and took their team out of trouble.
Gill continued to impress with 92 runs, including 11 boundaries and 2 sixes. Kohli added 88 runs to the scoreboard. Shreyas Iyer provided finishing touch after contributing 82 runs off just 56 deliveries with 3 fours and 6 sixes. India’s batting order put up a formidable total of 357/8 in their 50 overs.
For Sri Lanka, Dilshan Madushanka was the most successful bowler, taking 5 wickets for 80 runs in his 10 overs. Dushmantha Chameera and Kasun Rajitha picked up one wicket each, but they couldn’t prevent India from posting a challenging total.

Bowlers bundle out Sri Lanka for 55
The Sri Lankan innings turned into a nightmare as they struggled against the potent Indian bowling attack. The wickets kept tumbling, and the Sri Lankan team was bowled out for a mere 55 runs in 19.4 overs.
Mohammed Shami was the star with the ball for India, claiming 5 wickets for just 18 runs in his 5 overs. Mohammed Siraj contributed with 3 wickets for 16 runs in 7 overs, while Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja took 1 wicket each to complete the domination.
It was a comprehensive victory for India, as they won the match by a massive margin of 302 runs. The Indian team put on a clinical performance, both with the bat and the ball, while Sri Lanka had a forgettable day on the field.
