Former all-rounder of Pakistan, Abdul Razzaq has addressed the controversial statement he made about India’s pace ace Jasprit Bumrah, whom he had previously referred to as a ‘baby bowler.’

Jasprit Bumrah’s spectacular CWC 2023 performance

Bumrah’s remarkable return to international cricket following back surgery and his significant contributions to India’s Asia Cup victory and their current performance in the ODI World Cup 2023 have been widely recognized.

The right-arm speedster’s form in the ongoing quadrennial event has been exceptional, with 14 wickets from six games at an astonishing average of 15.07. Bumrah has impressed not only fans but also cricket experts with his ability to take wickets in all phases of the game, solidifying his reputation as one of the best fast bowlers in the world.

Abdul Razzaq explains his previous stance on Bumrah

In light of this, Razzaq clarified his earlier comments, asserting that they were taken out of context. He explained that his remarks were made in response to a comparison between Bumrah and legendary fast bowlers like Wasim Akram and Glenn McGrath.

“I have played against great bowlers like Glenn Mcgrath and Wasim Akram, so Bumrah is a baby bowler in front of me, and I could have easily dominated and attacked him,” Razzaq was quoted as saying by NDTV Sports.

Razzaq’s insights on cricketing comparisons and the evolution of young talent

Razzaq further emphasized that he never intended to diminish Bumrah’s bowling abilities and that his statement had been blown out of proportion. The 43-year-old also drew a parallel to his own early days in the team when he was considered a “baby” in comparison to a cricketing great like Akram.

“Maine ye kabhi nhi kaha ki Bumrah acha bowler nhi hai. Par jab aap unhe Wasim Akram, Glenn MacGrath see compare karenge to unhe baby bowler na kahu to aur kya kahu. Jab main team main aaya tha, main bhi bachcha tha Wasim Akram ke samne ( I never said he was not a good bowler. My statement was blown out of proportion. When you compare Bumrah with Glenn McGrath, Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar, what would I call him else? When I was new in the team I was also a baby in comparison to Wasim Akram),” the Lahore-born cricketer concluded.
