England all-rounder Ben Stokes‘ recent standout performance against the Netherlands has reignited discussions about his role in his side’s performance in the ongoing World Cup. While his classy display showcased his skill and versatility with the bat against the Dutch side on Wednesday, it also prompted debate about his impact on the English campaign in the ODI World Cup 2023.

It is worth noting that the 32-year-old announced his retirement from the game’s ODI format but took a U-turn after many thrills and spills and joined the three Lions in their run for title defence.

England’s horrible run in the ODI World Cup 2023

England’s shocking run in the ODI World Cup 2023 have sent reverberations through the cricketing world. With six losses in eight games, including five consecutive defeats, the performance of the 2019 World Cup champions have been nothing short of disastrous. Widely regarded as prime favourites entering the tournament, the dramatic downturn in their form has confounded expectations, leaving fans and analysts astounded by their unexpected struggles on the world stage.

The Jos Buttler-led side, who are reeling from the shattering of their semifinal aspirations, now find themselves in a different battle. Their focus has shifted to salvaging a place in the top eight spots of the points table. This target is pivotal as it will secure their participation in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 edition, which is scheduled to be played in Pakistan.
