India’s veteran batter, Gautam Gambhir, stands as a celebrated figure in the realm of Indian cricket and has played a pivotal role in many of the county’s iconic triumphs on the international stage. Although Gambhir is known for his reserved nature and rarely talks about his personal preferences, the former opening batter recently shared an intriguing revelation about his favourite batting partner in white-ball cricket, sending waves of nostalgia among cricket enthusiasts.

It is worth mentioning that Gambhir has shared the crease with legendary players like Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni and many others during his illustrious career spanning over a decade.

Gautam Gambhir’s glorious journey

Gambhir’s cricketing journey commenced in 2003 when he made his debut for the Indian cricket team in an ODI against Bangladesh. Over the years, he not only established himself as a dependable batter but also had the honour of captaining India in international cricket during 2010 and 2011. His significant contributions to India’s World Cup victories in 2007 and 2011 have etched his name in the annals of cricketing history.

World Cup triumphs

In the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 in 2007, Gambhir played a crucial role in India’s success. His memorable 54-ball 75 against Pakistan in the final propelled India to victory. In the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup final against Sri Lanka, Gambhir’s resilient knock of 97 laid the foundation for India’s triumph, solidifying his status as a match-winner.

Gambhir names his favourite batting partner in white ball cricket

Amidst discussions about India’s recent loss in the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia, Gambhir dropped a bombshell by revealing his favourite white-ball cricket batting partner. Contrary to popular belief, Gambhir named former captain MS Dhoni as his preferred companion at the crease.

“My favorite batting partner was MS Dhoni. People think that it was Virender Sehwag, but I actually love playing more with Dhoni, especially in white-ball cricket. We shared big partnerships,” Gambhir was quoted saying by Times Now.

Gambhir’s choice is not without merit. The Gambhir-Dhoni partnership played a defining role in India’s 2011 World Cup triumph. Their understanding, resilience, and ability to complement each other’s playing styles were evident in crucial matches, proving instrumental in India’s journey to becoming world champions.
