India’s star batter Virat Kohli is often compared to football legend Cristiano Ronaldo for his flair, tenacity, and relentless drive for victory. It is worth mentioning that Virat is renowned as the ‘Cristiano Ronaldo of cricket’ and is widely regarded for injecting a sense of style into the sport, captivating a global audience. Interestingly, Virat’s second favourite sport is football, and he can even be spotted enjoying the sport in his leisure moments and practice sessions, adding more fuel to his comparison with Ronaldo.

Yuvraj Singh’s playful take on Virat Kohli’s football skills

Although many believe that there are many similarities between Virat and Ronaldo, India’s veteran cricketer and Virat’s former teammate, Yuvraj Singh, candidly expressed his opinion on Kohli’s football prowess, taking a light-hearted jab at India’s former captain and asserting that he clearly falls short of Ronaldo’s level.

The bond Yuvraj and Virat share with each other

Yuvraj and Virat share a bond that extends beyond the cricket field. From being teammates in India’s triumphant 2011 ODI World Cup campaign to enjoying numerous iconic moments together, their camaraderie is well-known. Yuvraj’s candid remarks on Virat thinking of himself as Cristiano Ronaldo

During a recent interaction on the TRS podcast, Yuvraj didn’t hold back from sharing his amusing insights into Virat’s football prowess. The veteran all-rounder revealed that he has had his fair share of heated arguments over football, with Virat being one of his spirited opponents.

The veteran India all-rounder further also expressed that the Delhi-born cricketer thinks highly of his football skills, even comparing himself to Cristiano Ronaldo. He then playfully said that Virat is nowhere close to the Portugal star and claimed himself to be the superior footballer in their friendly disputes. Nevertheless, Yuvraj praised Virat for his batting ability and hailed him as ‘Cristiano Ronaldo of cricket’.

“Meri aur Virat ki bahut badi ladai hui hai football mein, meri (Ashish) Nehra ke saath bahut badi ladai hui hai football mein, Viru (Sehwag) ke saath, toh vo ho jaata hai. (Me and Virat have fought during football. I have also had fights with Nehra and Sehwag),” Yuvraj shared, highlighting the spirited moments they’ve shared on the football pitch.

“He thinks he is Cristiano Ronaldo, but he is not. In his cricket, he is Cristiano Ronaldo. (Kohli thinks he is a very good footballer. He has skills, but I am better than him in football),” Yuvraj added, injecting a dose of humour into the conversation.

Virat’s form in the ODI World Cup 2023

While Yuvraj may claim the upper hand in football banter, there’s no denying Virat’s exceptional cricketing skills. Currently representing India in the ODI World Cup 2023, Virat is in stellar form that has contributed significantly to India’s undefeated streak of eight matches. With an impressive tally of 543 runs, including two centuries and three half-centuries, Virat’s cricketing prowess remains unmatched. Recently, he achieved a significant milestone by equaling legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries, further solidifying his status as one of the cricketing greats.
