Shaheen Afridi, the talented fast bowler from Pakistan, has achieved a remarkable feat in the latest ICC ODI rankings, surging nine places to claim the top position among bowlers.

This ascent in Shaheen’s ranking is a testament to his exceptional performance in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, where the 23-year-old speedster has been a standout player. Currently, the left-arm pacer shares the position of the leading wicket-taker with Adam Zampa, having taken 16 wickets in seven innings at an impressive average of 19.93. It marks the first time that Shaheen has held the No.1 ranking in any format.

Major drop for Mohammed Siraj

In the ICC Men’s ODI Bowling Rankings, Australia’s Josh Hazlewood slipped to second place, followed by India’s Mohammed Siraj in third, and South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj in fourth. Shaheen’s whopping incline resulted in a major shift in the standings. Meanwhile, spin maestros Kuldeep Yadav and Mujeeb Ur Rahman have made gains, securing the seventh and eighth positions, respectively, within the top 10.

Babar Azam holds the top seat with a minor margin

Babar Azam is still holding the top position in the ODI batting rankings. However, the Pakistan skipper’s grip on the coveted spot has weakened, with his lead narrowing to just two rating points from his closest competitor, Shubman Gill.

Babar founds himself in a precarious position after an innings of just nine runs against Bangladesh. He has amassed a total of 216 runs from seven innings at the World Cup 2023, while Gill has yet to capitalize, with only 104 runs from four innings. South Africa wicket-keeper batter Quinton de Kock holds the third spot in the table.

The race for the top spot in the batting rankings remains intense, with explosive Australia opener David Warner rising to fourth place with 413 runs at the World Cup. India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, has also made significant progress, climbing three spots to fifth with his impressive 398 runs in the ongoing tournament.
