In a thrilling encounter at the Adelaide Oval, Brisbane Heat Women emerged victorious against Sydney Thunder Women in Match 52 of the Women’s Big Bash League 2023. With the victory, Brisbane Heat have also secured their berth in the final of the tournament.

Batters power Brisbane Heat to a respectable total

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Brisbane Heat Women posted a challenging total of 160/8 in their 20 overs. Bess Heath top-scored for the Heat with 29 runs off 25 balls, while Georgia Voll‘s explosive knock of 18 runs off 8 balls, including a four and a six, added valuable runs to the total.

Sammy-Jo Johnson was the most successful bowler for Sydney Thunder Women, claiming three wickets for 39 runs in her 4 overs.

Jess Jonassen sizzles with outstanding bowling

In response, Sydney Thunder Women fought hard but fell short of the target, finishing their innings at 138/9 in 20 overs. Chamari Athapaththu played a crucial innings of 34 runs off 28 balls, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win.

Jess Jonassen was the star with the ball for Brisbane Heat, taking an impressive four wickets for 26 runs in her 4 overs. The bowling efforts of Nicola Hancock (2 wickets for 22 runs) and Courtney Sippel (1 wicket for 26 runs) also played a pivotal role in restricting Sydney Thunder Women. Despite some resistance from the Thunder batters, Brisbane Heat Women sealed the victory by 22 runs.
