In the age of social media, where opinions can spread like wildfire, public figures often find themselves under the scrutiny of netizens for their comments. Former Pakistani cricketer Abdul Razzaq recently stirred a controversy with his peculiar remarks about Indian actress Aishwarya Rai. The cricketer’s words raised eyebrows and triggered a wave of criticism from netizens across the virtual landscape.
This controversy unfolded in the context of a media event focused on scrutinizing Pakistan’s recent performances in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. However, what set the stage for the uproar was Razzaq’s surprising choice of example, strategically aimed at critiquing the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Pakistan’s campaign in ODI World Cup 2023
Pakistan’s campaign in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 ended on a tragic note as the Babar Azam-led side failed to qualify for the tournament’s semifinal stage. The Green team won only four of their nine league-stage fixtures.

Razzaq’s out-of-the-box remarks on Aishwarya
Razzaq credited Younis Khan‘s positive intentions as a captain for boosting his confidence and performance. However, Razzaq expressed a broader concern about the lack of good intentions in Pakistan for developing and refining players. The right-arm allrounder drew an analogy, suggesting that expecting positive outcomes without fostering a conducive environment is akin to expecting a virtuous child by marrying Aishwarya.
“Here, I am referring to their (PCB’s) intention. While I was playing, I was aware of my captain Younis Khan’s good intentions. That gave me strength and confidence, and with Allah’s help, I was able to perform well for Pakistani cricket. We don’t really intend to improve and enhance the players, in my opinion. That will never happen if you believe that I will marry Aishwarya (Rai) to have a good-natured and moral child. Therefore, you must first amend your intentions,” Razzaq said.
Razzaq’s comments were quick to gain criticism and set social media ablaze with a wide range of outrage.
